How I Learned to Heal Myself

I have always been a healthy person. But about two years ago my hair suddenly started shedding like crazy. I knew it wasn't normal. It was so scary to see so much hair falling out every day.

I went to the doctor and had all of the necessary tests done. Nothing was physically wrong, they said. Then I went to two more doctors just to make sure. The diagnosis was the same: stress. The advice: stop being so stressed.

Easier said than done. Not to mention the fact that I am a life coach. I coach other people through their stress. Why was I having this problem? I didn't even feel like I was really that stressed. It just didn't make any sense. I even confronted God on this. "Why are you doing this to me?" I asked.

The doctors gave me a couple of prescriptions to try and help regrow what was being lost, so I took them, but I didn't want to be taking medicine for this for the rest of my life.

I knew I had to get to the root of whatever was causing me stress, so, I started searching for information and came across the concept of mind-body healing. I have heard about the concept before, so I was definitely interested! I enrolled in a tele-class that I took for a few months.

I started practicing the tools I was learning for mind-body healing daily. Interestingly, I made a proclamation on December 31, 2014. "This problem does not come with me into 2015." And with that, the problem was gone. Amazing!

I still get the normal hair shedding, and if I see it pick up, I know what to do. I guess that is just how my body is responding to stress at the moment. The exciting thing is that I learned some great tools to help other people with their stress and mind-body healing that really work!

Now, I help women heal themselves so they can more fully live and enjoy their lives!

If you've got some stress-related physical issues that you would like to work on, now might be a great time to try coaching with me. I am offering a special:

How I Learned to Live in the Moment

First-born, Type-A personality. Work first, play later.

When you live your life this way, like I was, there is never any time for fun, because there is always work to be done.

I have come to realize throughout my life that I feel very stressed doing things I should be enjoying. Take college for example -- almost the whole time I was there, I wished I was home, but when college was done and I looked back on it, I realized how amazing it was.

Then, after my second child came along. OMG. The stress of taking care of two children compared to one was a huge jump for me. And this second-born child was not like me. She did not believe in work first, play later.

I learned one of my greatest life lessons changing her diaper. She was old enough to be playful and kept moving her bottom around so I couldn't change the diaper. She was being silly. She was playing. She thought it was funny to watch mommy struggle to change her diaper.

I was not amused. I was frustrated. I could not enjoy that moment while I was in it to see what she was teaching me. She was teaching me that work and play should go together. You can play while you work.

Sometimes I just get so caught up in getting things done and doing it right that the stress gets to me and I don't enjoy the ride.

I don't want to get to the end of my life and look back and wish I would have enjoyed it more. We only get one chance at this with the precious people around us.

So, with the help of my life coach over the years, I have learned to find more balance between work and play and to put the two together. I still get sucked into my old mentality of work first, play later, but I try every day to enjoy the current moment that I am experiencing.

I have learned that if I am not happy, I have the ability to choose again. Right there in that moment. I have developed a blueprint to happiness, and now I help other moms take control of their life so they can enjoy the ride, too.

If you think you need someone to guide you on the journey to happiness, I am offering a special right now in celebration of my 5-year coaching anniversary.

Revitalize Your Walk with God at Women's Retreat

Are you looking to revitalize your walk with God? Want to feel more of His presence and guidance in your life? Then join me at the Seeking God in Fresh New Ways Women’s Retreat on October 17th at St. James Parish!

The purpose of the retreat is to help participants revitalize their walk with God. Artist TamaraPeterson and Life Purpose Coach Liz Lassa will teach women two fresh and fun new ways to connect with God.

In the morning session, Liz will share her shorthand approach to seeking God through Spiritual Circle Journaling. This format will help participants get deep quickly, using bullet points and circles. It's simplicity helps even non-journalers deepen their prayer life. The result is a closer walk with God, a more focused quiet time, and a life more clearly guided by the Spirit.

After a break for lunch, participants will take what they learned from the morning session a step further as Tamara teaches Spiritual Art Journaling. Participants will capture on a canvas the word, verse, or phrase from their morning session with papers, clipped images, textures and paints. “In the end, you will leave with your very own, ‘one-of-a-kind’ canvas to remind you of His message for this season in your life,” Peterson said. “The only experience required is Kindergarten!”

When: Saturday, Oct. 17, Light Refreshments: 8:30 Retreat: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Where: St. James Parish, 820 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights (Enter through the school’s West doors.)

Life Coaching Helps Reduce Anxiety and Stress

I am so blessed to be working in a field where I can help people like Kathy. This is her testimonial.

"I have seen therapists in the past who have helped me in limited ways.  Too often I left them after a few sessions feeling like I was just repeating my issues and had come full circle with how they could help me. Working with Tina opened up many new paths for me to deal with my worries and anxieties. Each week I felt I left our session with a new tool to try. I have had great success with Tina reducing my stress and overcoming fears that were not allowing me to enjoy my life. Thank you Tina!"
For the past five years I have been helping moms like Kathy rediscover their happiness so they can enjoy life with their families. If you have would like to seek some guidance for yourself, I am offering a 5-year anniversary special for new clients through August 5th. Purchase six sessions for the cost of five. That's one session on me!

How I Learned How to Choose Happy

Many people ask me how I seem so happy, so I thought I'd share it with you today.

It has been a journey, and it really started because being a mom was so much harder than I thought.

I remember when my kids were about 5 and 2 that I would wake up early many mornings to go get a workout in before everyone got up. I was so tired and worn out. I would sit on the edge of my bathtub in near darkness and silence and think, "I don't know if I can do this today." I was so depleted. Depressed. No fire for life. No purpose to my days but survival. But why? I had everything I ever wanted.

I was a stay-at-home mom, which was what I thought I always wanted, but I couldn't figure out why I was so miserable.

In addition to being mom, I was freelance writing for a parenting magazine. I received a story assignment to interview some life coaches to get tips for moms on how to be the best mom they can be, but still take care of themselves. "Ahh! Interesting!" I thought!

After writing that story and meeting the life coaches, I hired one. Then I had my breakthrough. I learned that it was my responsibility to choose happiness for myself. I learned how to live in the moment and enjoy my family. I learned how to stand up for myself and say, "no" to things that didn't serve me or my family. I learned to take control of my life instead of letting my life control me. I learned how to go from barely surviving to majorly thriving.

I was so moved by the experience that I knew I had to start sharing everything I had learned with other moms. So, I became certified as a life coach.

And that's where I am today. I have spent the last 5 years helping other moms choose happy so they can revive their passion for life and make the most out of every day with their families!

If you or anyone you know could use a little help in choosing happy, I am offering a 5-year anniversary special until August 5th. Get six sessions for the price of five.

Living With Intentionality: A Simple Exercise to Get You Started

Sometimes in life we get so bogged down with the details of getting things done that we fall into routines and habits and forget to really live.

We also tend to let the demands of others tell us what to do instead of deciding for ourselves what we really want to do.

Have you been feeling unhappy lately? Bored? Unfulfilled? These might be clues that you are not truly living your life.

Would you like to see what it feels like to be truly living?

Here's a simple exercise to get you started!

1. The next action you get ready to take, whether it is doing the dishes or sending an email, stop and ask yourself, "What is my intention with this action?" Look for true intentions. Pure ones.

Some intentions might be:

  • To make yourself happy
  • To make someone else happy
  • To show love to someone
  • To be helpful to someone
  • To serve someone
2. Once you have found your intention for that action, proceed with it now that you are fully aware of why you are doing it. As you complete your action, remind yourself of your intention. This will bring you joy. It will bring you into the present moment. It will bring you to living intentionally.

Anger is a Sword We Raise to Protect Ourselves

Anger is a sword we raise to protect ourselves from getting hurt again. Seems wise at first glance, but being on guard in this way is actually not protecting us. It is hurting us. Stopping the flow of love in one relationship constricts the flow of love in all of our relationships.

The sword is an energy block. It is blocking love from flowing to and from us freely. This causes both emotional and physical challenges.

Those tense shoulders? They are hurting from holding up that sword. That pain in your stomach? You might as well be stabbing yourself with that sword. No love is flowing here!

Emotionally, holding up the sword leads to a lot of self-doubt, loneliness and judgment. You take it out on others, but you are your one true victim.

At the heart of it, you are not really angry with anyone else. You are angry with yourself for allowing other people to hurt you.

How do you get out of this situation? Put down the sword.

Here's how
  1. If someone has angered you, take time to look at the experience. Write out what happened and your feelings about it. Look for any lessons you might have learned.
  2. Now, turn the experience around. Put yourself in the other person's shoes for a moment to see the experience from their perspective. Write out the experience from their perspective.
Hopefully this exercise will result in you finding some compassion for the other person. This may or may not lead to a physical reconciliation, but it doesn't have to. The important thing is that you release your anger and allow compassion for this person to enter your heart. You can then forgive them, and, most importantly, forgive yourself.

The formula is simple, but not easy. Drop the sword. Release the anger. Return to love.

Let me know if you need help with this.
